I Was Passionate…But Unprepared

I’ve always been a “part-time” makeup artist since 2011, working weekends while holding down a regular job. I had an Instagram makeup page, website, was listed on wedding sites as a vendor for visibility, had an LLC and a business bank account. I thought I was doing everything right.

But the truth? I was winging it-and I paid the price.

• I owed several thousands in taxes my first year in business, no deductions

• I lost $800 from a canceled wedding because I failed to make a proper contract

• I didn’t track my income-or how much I spent

• I had zero legal protection

• I juggled emails, DM’s, Facebook messages, with no organization

• I spent 11K on a makeup school that didn’t even qualify me legally to run my business

  I had to start over.

  I wasn’t running a business- I was just a passionate artist hoping for the best thinking everything was going to fall into place as I dragged along.
