I’ve always been a “part-time” makeup artist since 2011, working weekends while holding down a regular job. I had an Instagram makeup page, website, was listed on wedding sites as a vendor for visibility, had an LLC and a business bank account. I thought I was doing everything right.
But the truth? I was winging it-and I paid the price.
I owed several thousands in taxes my first year in business, no deductions
I lost $800 from a canceled wedding because I failed to make a proper contract
I didn’t track my income-or how much I spent
I had zero legal protection
I juggled emails, DM’s, Facebook messages, with no organization
I spent 11K on a makeup school that didn’t even qualify me legally to run my business
I got reported for working without a license and at the time had no idea why
I had to start over.
